Job Summary:
CRS Tanzania is seeking qualified individuals to fill the position of Project Manager for Marketing and Private Sector Engagement for the SPICES (Protecting and Securing Investment and Capacity for Environmental Sustainability) project in Kilimanjaro and Tanga Regions. The project aims to provide farming families with the opportunity to rebuild their farming practices and adopt sustainable agricultural practices linked to growth and diverse markets to bring about positive changes in their livelihoods, livelihoods and landscapes. In partnership with selected smallholder farmers and private sector companies, the SPICES team will collaborate to design, invest and provide technical support to generate profitable business models in Tanzania to address local knowledge, local needs and ensure local leadership that builds on the experience in Madagascar. CRS will also work closely with the Catholic Church through dioceses and parishes to utilize some of its underutilized resources and assets to develop business opportunities that serve the mission of the Church and ensure income generation for youth.
Job Description As a Project Manager you will manage, coordinate, and monitor project activities and relationships with partners and other project stakeholders to support the achievement of the SPICES project objectives to advance the work of Catholic Relief Services serving the poor and vulnerable. You will oversee the development, implementation, and strengthening of private sector engagement processes including tenders and matching grants for joint investments with partner companies, business development services, small and medium enterprises, farmer organizations, and relationships with local and international buyers. Your project management skills and program area knowledge will ensure that CP delivers a high quality program and continues to work to improve the impact of this project.
Job Summary:
- You will lead technical activities, budget management, monitoring and reporting through the full project cycle – initiation, implementation and closure – in accordance with CRS program quality principles and standards, donor requirements and best practices.
- Effectively manage and supervise talent. Manage team dynamics and staff well-being. Provide training, strategically plan individual development plans, contribute to the project staff recruitment process, and comprehensive performance management for direct reports.
- Ensure effective learning is aligned with project activities throughout the project cycle. Support accountability by coordinating project evaluation activities following the MLO Policy.
- Proactively identify issues, report them to inform adjustments to implementation plans and schedules.
- Engage and strengthen partnerships related to agriculture and market systems, using appropriate use of partnership concepts, tools and methodologies.
- Represent the organization with donors, INGO, UN working groups, relevant local partners and relevant local government and community actors for agriculture and agro-biodiversity.
- Coordinate activities required to secure financial, material and human resources for effective project implementation. Conduct regular budget reviews and follow-up with partners on timely submission of financial reports to enable accurate monitoring of resource use.
- Identify staff capacity needs and technical assistance needs of partner organizations and contribute to capacity building and interventions needed to support effective project implementation.
- Assist in preparing trend analysis reports and disseminating findings. Review project documents to ensure that the project file is complete with all required documents and is presented in accordance with agency and donor requirements.
Basic Features
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in International Relations or in the field of agriculture/agriculture would be a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in project management, preferably in the field of agriculture, market systems development, and/or private sector engagement for NGOs.
- Additional experience may substitute for some education.
- Languages Required – English and Swahili
Travel – This position will be based in Korogwe, Tanga. Must be willing and able to travel up to 40%.

- Recommended Qualifications
- Relevant experience in grant management, preferably with USG or other public funders, as well as .
- Experience in managing staff.
- Experience working with stakeholders at various levels and fostering community engagement.
- Ability to contribute to the development of technical proposals, as well.
- Experience analyzing data and contributing to evaluation reports.
- Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
